IPBGG 2024 Newsletter

A Note from the Director
Dear friends of IPBGG,
The year 2024 ended with a very special milestone for the Institute of Plant Breeding, Genetics, and Genomics (IPBGG). We graduated our 100th student!
The number of students has increased steadily since the Institute opened its doors in 2008. Back then, we said having 25 graduate students would indicate having a successful program. Yet, we finished 2024 with an all-time high graduate student number of 66 graduate students!
Research being done at IPBGG contributes to food security and agricultural sustainability, worldwide.
Our world-renowned faculty develop improved plant cultivars and train the next generation of students in the latest plant breeding and genetics methods.
IPBGG offers a Master's degree and a Doctorate of Philosophy in Plant Breeding, Genetics and Genomics.
Students conduct research in modern plant breeding methodology and techniques, including the development of genetic and genomic tools and their application to the development of new varieties.
Cultivar and germplasm development remain an important part of IPBGG's mission and the pipeline in breeding programs continues to generate genetically superior lines of value to the industry.
