In her own words ...

Where are you from, and why did you choose to study at UGA/CAES?
Tifton, Georgia; I work full time as a Research Technician at UGA Tifton. I love the atmosphere and sense of community the college gives. In addition to working and learning from their brilliant researchers. This made me decide to pursue a Masters degree with CAES.. 

What is your major/degree program, and what department?
Masters in Plant breeding, genetics and genomics; Horticulture Department.

Why did you choose your major?
I grew to love the plant breeding, genetics and genomics while working with our peanut breeding program 

What is your favorite class you have taken?
Plant Breeding, Genetics and Genomics Practicum Course.

Who has been your favorite instructor?
Dr. Jason Wallace and Dr. Brian Schwartz

What has been the best experience you've had so far at the college?
Getting to meet others that have similar interests and spending time with them. Graduate school has gifted me with a few fantastic friendships which I hope will continue to flourish throughout my future career. 

What do you want to do with what you have learned here?
Either pursue a PhD or find a job in Plant Breeding using genetics. 

How has your experience at UGA changed you?
It has opened my mind up to learning about the different struggles each crop and country has. In addition, to using genetics to resolve the issues.

Thinking of the word agriculture - what does agriculture mean to you? In what ways does agriculture impact your life and your culture?
Growing up in south Georgia meant I was always surrounded by agriculture. To me, agriculture means life. Agriculture connects the world together. 

What do you like to do outside of class — hobbies, interests, secret talents?
I like to play soccer and do anything that brings me closer to nature. This includes hiking, kayaking or just sitting in a hammock with a good book and a coffee. I also love traveling and visiting with friends and family.
